I was not raised around firearms, in fact, just the opposite. My family believed there are others that we rely on to provide the blanket of protection that we sleep beneath. I decided that I want to be responsible for providing that protection and not reliant upon others. In my book, proper firearms training is a skill that everyone should possess. No different than learning to swim, driving standard, or a martial art.
My relationship with firearms blossomed after attending university when video game skills evolved to paintball skills, which evolved into airsoft. Formal training began while serving with the Republic of Korea of Air Forces. Since then, Rochester Personal Defense has fed my love of training coupled with a talent for teaching complex subjects into simple, easy to understand concepts.
In an everchanging world, knowledge is power. I consider myself both a teacher and a lifelong student. I want to gain as much training as possible to augment my own abilities as well as teach others the proper way to do the same. The most rewarding experience is seeing a student walk away with the skills you have imparted upon them, turnaround and ask where they can learn more.
Sun Tzu said “The victorious general only seeks battle after it has already been won. He commands the battlefield; he knows the enemy and more importantly knows himself. He is never not in control.”
I never want to place myself or those that I love in a position we cannot control. We train, we prepare, we take control.
