Course Details

Rochester Personal Defense is offering two packages for this 18-hour concealed carry course:

Standard Package:

The standard 18HR NYS CCW Course in Rochester, NY package includes a free session to review your completed NY State Pistol License application for before submitting it to the county clerk, a professionally printed book, use of a handgun, ammo, and all range access fees.

Enhanced Package: ($50)

In the VIP package, you can get:
  1. Help in filling out your application
  2. Final review of your application before submission
  3. Help with any queries about your background
  4. Connecting with one of our fully vetted legal team members (if needed)
  5. Help in setting up your application and fingerprinting appointments

Point to Consider

1-    As of July 15, 2024: Our course completion certificate will be accepted in the following counties: ALL 5 NYC Boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island) Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Chemung, Cortland, Dutchess, Erie, Genesee, Jefferson, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Niagara, Onondaga, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Oswego, Putnam, Rensselar, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Wayne, Westchester, Wyoming, and Yates county.


2-      If you are a current license or permit holder and you DO NOT live in NYC, Westchester, Suffolk, or Nassau counties, you do not have to complete this training course.


3-      If you DO live in NYC, Westchester, Suffolk, or Nassau counties, you must complete this training within 1 year from your current recertification date.

New York concealed carry class topics

  • Federal: 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), makes it unlawful for certain categories of persons to ship, transport, receive, or possess firearms or ammunition, to include any person:
  • Convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year
  • Who is a fugitive from justice
  • Who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, codified at 21 U.S.C. § 802)
  • Who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution
  • Who is an illegal alien
  • Who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions
  • Who has renounced his or her United States citizenship
  • Who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner
  • Who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
  • You can not obtain a NYS pistol permit if you have a felony or domestic violence conviction, have had a DWI within 5 years, or have any other legal prohibitions on firearms ownership.
  • You will be responsible for your county's application fees.
  • You'll need to bring your own lunch, snacks, and any hydration you wish.

In order to Pass this Course:

Each participant has to complete a written exam with a minimum score of 80%.

Each participant has to pass the NYS live fire qualification at 80%.

Those who successfully pass the exam and qualifications will be issued a certificate of completion and any county-specific letters to include in their application packet.

Who should not attend this course?

You should not attend this course if you:
  • have a felony or domestic violence conviction
  • are a drug user
  • are a fugitive from justice
  • have a DWI conviction within the past 5 years
  • are an illegal alien
